The Board of The Good Shop wishes to thank and applaud Lucy’s fantastic work of leading The Good Shop on an interim basis while also continuing as its Finance Manager. All employees have really stepped up and grown under her servant leadership, and it shows in our results:

Record results for The Good Shop

While continuing our aim to provide a great customer experience through good deals, The Good Shop’s total shop sales reached an all-time single-month high in March. Our newest shop in New Grove hit its highest-ever monthly sales since opening in August 2024. A new all-location daily sales record was set on 29 March, and the Calebasses shop hit its highest daily sales ever on the same day!

Shout out to other GOOD things in Mauritius

The Good Shop was honoured as a partner in sustainability to be invited by MCB aboard the Plastic Odyssey, a floating collaborative laboratory which promotes the repurposing of plastic as it travels around the world. We were inspired by examples of what is happening in other countries as well as Mauritian enterprises such as Helios Eyewear and Surfrider (where we had the pleasure of recently purchasing recycled plastic planks for our staff table). These companies are making good use of our plastic waste for good products, Made in Moris.

What happens to stuff that doesn’t sell?

As we get more book donations, we naturally need to clear space of books that have not sold for a while. So what do we do with them? The Good Shop provides its pre-sorted quality books, according to genre requested, to the public library system as well as libraries for detainees in prisons. We were pleased to recently make some new donations in March.

The Good Shop was nominated for “Leading in Sustainability” in the 2024 edition of The People’s Choice Awards.

The event was held in Hilton Mauritius Resort & Spa, Flic en Flac with several Companies and entrepreneurs from various sectors of activity present as nominees and guests.
An award night filled with inspiring networking and celebrating the winners of the respective categories.
A special shoutout and congratulation to Leon L’Artisan Savonnier, the well-deserved winner of the Leading in Sustainability category. https://www.facebook.com/Leonlartisansavonnier

Education is one of our missional pillars.  We recently expressed this by a presentation at L’Université des Mascareignes on Circular Economy & Social Enterprise. Our model was also provided in the context of a masterclass on social enterprises and personal mission for undergraduates of African Leadership College of Higher Education. Finally, your donations have amazingly enabled us to be onwardly generous in the area of education. In September, The Good Shop made a significant donation of its operational surplus to The Lighthouse Trust’s scholarship fund. This will help fund on average about 9 financially needy students for a year.

There are GOOD things going on at The Good Shop!

At The Good Shop, we care about standards to create a pleasant shopping experience and to steward well the donated goods entrusted to us. We hope you’ve noticed positive changes to our refreshed shop floors, where our teams applied their creative energy.
We have processed 48.55 tonnes of donations in the last 5 months.  That’s a lot of stuff that may have otherwise cluttered your homes or the Mare Chicose landfill, which is officially saturated.

in case you didn’t already notice:  we opened our 5th shop in New Grove / Rose Belle! Thanks to the warm welcome of new and returning customers, we finally have a presence in the south. This shop would also not have been possible without the start-up support from MOL Mauritius International Fund. This Fund was set up with a long-term vision to contribute to nature conservation projects as well as the sustainable social development of communities in Mauritius. We share a commitment to creating sustainable employment while making an environmental impact. You can learn more about our impact through this grant here.
